The Lead: Fredy Flores' goal just over a minute into overtime lifted Lynchburg to a 1-0 win over Roanoke Saturday night in Salem.
How it Happened
- The Maroons had several chances to go up in first half. In the 15th minute, Brandon Bauer hooked a free kick that forced LC goalkeeper Dylan McLaurin to make a sprawling save to keep RC off the board.
- The score remained 0-0 through halftime. Roanoke had another opportunity to score when Jon-Cody Mactutus rifled a free kick off the crossbar, just missing a goal.
- In the extra period, LC took a corner kick which Flores collected in the box and was able to head the ball off the cross-bar and the ball went just over the line to give LC the win.
- Roanoke outshot Lynchburg 13-9 and had a 4-3 edge in corner kicks.
- McLaurin finished with six saves, including five in the first-half of play to keep Roanoke off the scoreboard. Nick Tadros made a pair of saves for Roanoke.
Up Next: Roanoke will travel to Charlotte, N.C. on Tuesday to take on Oglethorpe in a neutral site contest starting at 7:00 p.m.
