Meet: 2019 ODAC Championships
Location: Greensboro, N.C. / Greensboro Aquatic Center
Dates: February 15-17
The Lead: Roanoke finished second on the men's side and third among the women at the 2019 ODAC Championships.
Women's Highlights:
- Roanoke finished third as a team.
- Reilly Bird eclipsed the NCAA B-cut (57.00) in the 100-backstroke with a time of 56.18 to take the title. That is 0.20 off the ODAC champs record and a little more than a half-second off the overall record. Bird also had a third-place finish in the 50 yard free with a time of 24.04.
- The team of Bird, Maria Vinson, Sarah Virginia Scott, and Elizabeth Roberts placed second in the 400 yard medley relay with a time of 3:58.20.
- The relay team of Bird, Scott, Hannah Petty and Maggie Cook finished third in the 200 yard medley with a time of 1:49.14.
- The 800 yard free relay team of Izzy Mack, Petty, Grace Fountain and Vinson took second-place with a time of 1:59.52.
- Maria Vinson placed third in the 400 yard IM with a time of 4:36.39.
Men's Highlights
- Head Coach Scott Thacker was named ODAC Coach of the Year after leading the Maroons to a second-place finish.
- Connor Kinkema set the ODAC overall and championship record in the 100-breaststroke with a first-place time of 56.74 The previous record was 57.11 for both and was set in 2017 by R-MC's Robert Redenz. Nick McGrath finished second with a time of 57.22.
- Kinkema's ODAC Championship in the breaststroke came on the heels of him winning the 400 IM with a time of 4:05.64. Kinkema also won the 200 breaststroke with an ODAC and meet record time of 2:02.14, also an NCAA B-cut (2:04.80).
- For his efforts, Kinkema was named the ODAC Rookie of the Meet.
- Parker Devillier became the ODAC Champion in the 50 yard free after touching the wall in a time of 21.17. McGrath would finish in fourth place in that race with a time of 21.27.
- The 200 yard free relay group of Devillier, McGrath, David Adarkwah and Brian Grimmett finished third with a time of 1:25.71.
- Grimmett, Kinkema, Ben Tate and Colin Burnettte would team up to place third in the 400 yard medley relay with a time of 3:31.33.
- Tate would finish third in both the 100 yard butterfly (51.59) and the 200 yard free (1:43.73). Tate would also team up with Grimmett, Cole Hensen and Jack Vaughn to finish third in the 800 yard free relay, posting a time of 7:07.66.
