Meet: Roanoke vs. Lees-McRae Dual Meet
Location: Salem, Va. (Salem YMCA)
The Lead: After a successful ODAC Relay Meet the Roanoke men and women hosted Lees-McRae in a dual meet on Saturday afternoon. The Maroon men would win six of the 11 events on their way to a, 111 – 77, win over Lees-McRae. In the women's meet, it would come down to the final event as the NCAA DII Bobcats won by just 13 points over the Maroons.
Women's highlights:
- Susanna Price picked up first place points with a 1:59.44 final time on the 200 Freestyle, the only swimmer to best the two-minute mark. Price would return later in the meet to win her second individual event with a winning effort in the 200 Butterfly (2:13.90)
- In the 200 Individual Medley (IM) Maria Vinson touched in 2:17.13, .54 seconds ahead of the runner-up.
- Maddie Andrews added another set of winning points with a first-place effort in the 200 Backstroke with a time of 2:12.30.
- The meet would be decided during the final event of the meet, the 400 Freestyle Relay. The Bobcat quartet would touch first, ahead of a pair of Roanoke relay teams to secure the win.
Men's highlights:
- The Roanoke men won six of the 11 events with five runner-up finishes.
- The opening relay, the 400 Medley, Roanoke would get the meet off to a win with the team of Erik Kratzer, Logan Deal, Ben Tate, and Xavier Williams (3:29.58).
- Tate would garner the first individual win when he took the 200 Freestyle in a time of 1:46.26. Tate would add a second win in the 200 Butterfly in 1:58 flat.
- The 500 Freestyle belonged to Ethan Brewer when he bested the field in 4:54.53, just out-touching John David McCray by just .20 of a second.
- Connor Kinkema touched in 2:13.21 to win the 200 Breaststroke, starting a 1-2-3-4 finish for the Maroons. Connor Bitz finished runner-up with Chris Snow touching the wall a split second ahead of Davis Wheeler.
- Deal and Kratzer teamed with Richie Evans and Brian Grimmett to close out the after noon with one final win in the 400 Freestyle Relay.
Up next: Roanoke will travel to Emory & Henry to face the Wasps in a dual-meet next Saturday, October 23rd.
