Meet: 2022 ODAC Swim Championships (Day Two)
Location: Greensboro, N.C.
The Lead: Day two of the 2022 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Swim Championships would see a pair of relays and three individual events decided in the pool at the Greensboro Aquatic Center. Roanoke would continue to hold onto the runner-up spot on the score board in both the women's and men's championships. Ben Tate broke his own ODAC, meet, and school record in the 500 Freestyle to headline a night that would see the Maroons earn eight top-3 finishes including a pair of wins.
Women's highlights:
- 200 Freestyle Relay: Lily Mullens, Paige Shaika, Elizabeth Roberts, and Hannah Zhang would finish less than half a second behind the team from Lynchburg to earn 3rd place points (1:38.46).
- 500 Freestyle: Susanna Price would post a final time of 5:06.31 to claim a 1.68 second victory over her nearest competitor.
- 200 IM: Bailey Gallagher just missed a top-3 when she finished the 200 IM in 2:10.13, just .15 of a second behind the 3rd place finisher.
- 50 Freestyle: The fastest event of the meet would see Mullens finish 4th (24.24).
Men's highlights:
- 200 Freestyle Relay: Richie Evans, Brian Grimmett, Logan Deal, and Xavier Williams posted a final time of 1:24.17 to earn runner-up points.
- 500 Freestyle: Ben Tate topped the field when he touched in 4:35.31, besting his ODAC record of 4:36.80 (2020). Right behind Tate would be teammate Ethan Brewer, who also bested the previous record with a time of 4:36.21, giving Roanoke a 1-2 finish. In 4th would be Josh Rauch (4:41.25).
- 200 IM: Deal would just get out-touched by .49 of a second to come home runner-up, 1:53.47.
- 50 Freestyle: Williams added another set of 2nd place points when he touched the wall at 21.15.
- 400 Medley Relay: Evans, Tate, Deal, and Williams wrapped up the night by posting the 3rd best time in the relay at 3:27.94.
Up next: The third day of the championship meet will start on Saturday morning with the Prelims beginning at 10am and the Finals of those events being decided in the evening.
