The Short Story: After four days of events and several top finishes, the Roanoke men's swim team finished third in the final standings at the 2023 ODAC Swimming Championships held at the Greensboro Aquatic Center.

TOP FINISHES

  • On the opening Wednesday evening only one event took place, the 800 yard free relay with Chris Snow, Josh Rauch, Kellen Drawbaugh, and Ethan Brewer finishing second with a time of 6:57.32.
  • In Thursday's finals, Jason Brooks, Mack Calvert, Logan Deal, and Xavier Williams were third in the 200 yard free relay with a time of 1:24.43.
  • Brewer was runner-up in the 500 yard free with a time of 4:33.86 while Rauch was fourth with a time of 4:40.70. Brewer's time set a new school record by over a second and a half.
  • In the 200 yard IM, Deal finished eighth with a time of 1:57.38.
  • The 50 Yard free saw Brooks touch the wall eighth with a time of 21.68.
  • The final, finals event of the day saw Davis Wheeler, Deal, Brooks, and Williams finished third in the 400 yard medley relay with a time of 3:27.56.
  • The first event on Friday was the 200 yard medley relay with Calvert, Deal, Brooks, and Williams collecting a third-place finish with a time of 1:33.95.
  • Austin Nielsen was seventh in the 400 yard IM with a time of 4:15.48.
  • Brooks had a second, eighth place finish this time in the 100 yard fly with a time of 51.93.
  • In the 200 yard free, Brewer was edged out at the wall and finished runner-up with a time of 1:41.28. Rauch finished sixth in the event with a time of 1:45.09.
  • The Maroons collected their first ODAC champion of the weekend when Deal won the 100 yard breaststroke in a school, ODAC Meet, and ODAC record time of 55.80. Roanoke also had two other top-eight finishes in the event with Tommy Nichols (seventh – 59.31) and Connor Bitz (eighth – 59.95) also making the podium.
  • Saturday started off with a bang for the Maroons with a 1-2 finish in the 1650 yard free. Josh Rauch set a new school, ODAC meet, and ODAC record with a time of 16:04.82, breaking the previous record by SEVEN seconds. Brewer was runner-up with a time of 16:05.14, a time that would have also broken the previous records. Both time also were NCAA Championship B Cut times by over 11 seconds!
  • In the 100 yard free, Williams finished eighth for Roanoke with a time of 47.66.
  • Deal won his second ODAC title of the championships with a win in the 200 yard breaststroke with a time of 2:04.58 while Nielsen also reached the podium with a time of 2:08.37 to finish seventh.
  • Drawbaugh was eighth in the 200 yard fly with a time of 1:59.15.
  • The final event of the championships saw Brooks, Calvert, Deal, and Williams finish the 400 yard free relay in third place with a time of 3:07.63.
