Men fourth, Women sixth in ODAC Pre-Season Tennis Polls
Salem, VA --- The ODAC pre-season men's and women's tennis polls were released this afternoon. The men earned fourth place with 73 points. On the women's side, a sixth place position was given with 72 points.
The men will see the return of ODAC Co-Rookie of the year Jon Roy (Greensboro, NC, Grimsley). Last season, Roy was the Maroons' No. 1 singles player, going 9-4 in all matches with a 7-0 conference mark. He went 7-6 at No. 1 doubles, primarily with partner Sam Sherrill (Southborough, MA, St. Mark's)(6-6), claiming the last five singles matches of the year.
In addition to Roy, teammates Sherrill and Sam Jordan (Lexington, NC, Lexington)will be returning to the court. Sherrill was 1-1 in No. 1 singles and took ODAC Player of the Year William Moss (H-SC) to three sets. Jordan rebounded from a 0-4 start to finish 5-8 in No. 4 singles last season. He went 6-7 in No. 2 doubles, primarily with partner Pete DeWitt (Malvern, PA, Great Valley)to garner two All-ODAC plaques. At the end of the season, Sherrill and Jordan were each named All-ODAC Second Team.
Kelsey White (Providence, RI, Wheeler)will lead the women's team in 2010. White, the team's #1 singles player in 2009, was named All-ODAC Second Team last season. She finished 4-1 in #1 singles, 2-1 against ODAC competition before suffering a season-ending injury. She also went 4-3 in #1 doubles, winning the first three matches of the spring.
The men will open their 2010 season on February 24 against Averett University in Danville, Va. The women will open their 2010 season on February 22 against Southern Virginia University in Salem, Va.
