Roanoke falls to #23 North Carolina Wesleyan

SALEM, Va. --- Roanoke fell to #23 North Carolina Wesleyan, 9-0 in non-conference action Sunday afternoon. The Maroons now drop to 1-4 on the season while the Battling Bishops improved to 7-0 and the programs' first national ranking.
The Bishops forged an early 3-0 advantage in doubles play as regionally-ranked doubles partners Saari/Rumyantsev were 8-1 winners at the top over Jon Roy and Sam Sherrill. NCWC's Minasyan/Prata tandem won 8-2 at the second seed over Sam Jordan and Pete DeWitt. Filonov/Ilpo Kautonen picked up their first doubles win of the weekend with an 8-3 victory at #3 over Alex Lyons and Drew Rodgers.
The Bishops ran the table with six straight-set victories in singles play as Saari, Rumyantsev, Minasyan, Filonov, Lemongo, and Bukatin did the honors. In #2 singles, Sherrill came the closest in defeat, falling 6-2, 6-3 to Rumyantsev.
The men will travel to Hampden-Sydney on March 25 which is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
