The Basics:
Score: Marymount 3, Roanoke 0
Records: Saints 17-5, 4-2 CVC; Maroons 7-12, 0-4 CVC
Location: Salem, Va.
The Lead: Playing one more match from the Bast Center Gym was not in the Roanoke men's volleyball team's favor as the Maroons dropped a 3-0 CVC contest with Marymount on Saturday afternoon.
Highlights:
- The Saints jumped out to an early lead and were able to maintain a three to four-point advantage on Roanoke for most of the early part of the first set. By midway through they were able to build a seven-point lead before closing out the first set 25-13.
- The second set saw the Maroons go on a 6-1 run early for the 8-5 lead. However, a quick 4-0 run in response for Marymount put them on top 9-8. Roanoke would have the lead at 11-10 before the teams would trade points with the Saints having a 16-15 advantage. Marymount then went on an 8-0 run to get to nonuple set point. The Maroons saved two set points before the Saints claimed the second set 25-17.
- The final set saw both teams make small runs with the score tied at 12-12. The Saints followed with a three-point run which was immediately answered by the Maroons with a 3-0 of their own. A 5-0 would stretch the led before Roanoke pulled back within one at 22-21. The Saints claimed the final three points for the 3-0 set win over the Maroons.
- Michael Cummins led the Maroons with five kills while Connor Tyson was right behind him with four. Davin Stevenson dished out a team-high 13 assists.
Up Next: The Maroons will host Southern Virginia in a CVC matchup on Wednesday, March 29. First serve from the Cregger Center is scheduled for 7 p.m.
