Roanoke Defeated by Washington and Lee, 70-57
SALEM - The Roanoke College women's basketball team fell to a Washington and Lee team that was near perfect from the charity stripe, 70-57 on Friday night.  The Maroons fall to 1-8, 1-4 ODAC, while the Generals move up to 4-6, 2-3 in ODAC play.

Washington and Lee's Meg Ingram and Kari Pfannenstein each knocked down threes in the opening moments of the contest, which really set the tone for the contest.  The Maroons responded quickly, cutting the deficit back to one a couple of times in the first few minutes.  For Roanoke, six different players netted their first six baskets of the game.  Going in to the locker room at half, the Generals led by 13, 29-16.

The Maroons fired back in the second half, opening the stanza on a 13-2 run, which started with a pair of Nicci Moats free throws, and saw the scoring of Rachel Dellahunt, Taylor Duggins and Laurel Hankins.  The Maroons could not get over the hump though as the Generals would extend the lead back to nine.  Paxton Gwin drained a three around the 14 minute mark, to start another run, that would bring Roanoke within 4.  But the Maroons just couldn't hold on, and fell to the Generals 70-57.

One of the biggest notes for W&L was that at halftime, Washington and Lee was 1-1 from the free throw line.  At the end of the contest, they finished 21-22 from the line.

Paxton Gwin led the Maroons with 13 points to go with her six rebounds.  Laurel Hankins was just behind Gwin with 10 points.  Senior Nicci Moats finished the contest with nine points and a team high nine rebounds.  Tatum McKee also had nine points to her credit in the Roanoke effort.

The Maroons will return to action on January 13th as they travel to face Randolph-Macon.  That contest is scheduled to begin at 7:00 PM.
