The Lead: Roanoke scored an 87-52 victory over Goucher behind a career-high 19 points and 10 rebounds from Jamella Foster as the two team's squared off in the opening round of the Jean Beamer Tip-Off Classic on Friday.
How it Happened:
- Cary Beahm joined Foster in double-digits with 17 points. Allison Livengood came off the bench to score nine points, while Victoria Maxwell had eight points and 11 rebounds.
- Bridget Holleran dished out a game high 10 assists. Eleven different Maroons scored in the win and RC held a 65-46 edge on the glass for the game.
- The Maroons defense held Goucher to 25.7% shooting for the in the game, allowing the Gophers to make just 19-of-74 shots, including just 1-of-13 from beyond the three-point arc. The Maroons recorded 13 steals, led by three from Maxwell.
- Roanoke shot 43.4% for the game, making 36-of-83 shots. The Maroons assisted on 22 of their 36 made field goals
- RC jumped out to a 9-0 lead following a jumper by Jasmine Agee. Goucher cut it to 17-10 later in the quarter before RC scored the final four points, getting a bucket by Chris Martin to lead 21-10 after the first quarter.
- Roanoke busted the game open by opening the second quarter on a 14-3 run, taking a 35-13 lead after a three-point play by Foster with just over five minutes to play in the half.
- The Maroons held a 44-19 edge at halftime and would see its lead balloon to as many at 35 in the second-half as they secured their first win of the season.
