Beahm Goes For 32 & 18 in 93-90 OT Loss at SVU

The Lead: Roanoke's Cary Beahm scored 32 points and grabbed 18 rebounds in 93-90 overtime road loss at Southern Virginia on Tuesday night.

How it Happened:               

  • With RC down 9-8 early in the first quarter, the Maroons went on a 14-4 run, taking a 23-13 lead on a Beahm jumper with just over two minutes to go in the quarter. 
  • SVU scored the final five points to make it 23-18 after the first quarter and held a 39-36 advantage in the closing seconds of the half before RC's Jamella Foster made a layup with four seconds to go to send the teams to the locker room with SVU up 39-38.
  • The third quarter was back and forth with neither team able to open up more than a four point lead. With the score tied at 58, Roanoke scored the final six points of the quarter, taking a 64-58 lead on Chris Martin jumper with less than 10 seconds to play.
  • The fourth quarter was much of the same with the teams finding themselves tied 72-72 with 3:47 to play after a pair of Beahm free-throws. RC scored five of the next seven points, pushing its lead to 79-74 on an Allison Livengood bucket with 1:28 to go.
  • SVU battled back with an 8-3 run and tied the game at 82-82 on a Kelsey Johnson rebound and put back with one second to go in regulation to send the game to overtime.
  • Back-to-back scores by Livengood and Beahm to open the extra frame put RC up 86-82. With the score tied at 90-90, Angel Tuisavura put SVU in front 92-90 with 1:12 to play.
  • The Knights got a defensive stop on RC's ensuing possession then the Maroons stopped SVU but, turned the ball over before they could clear the SVU end of the court and committed a foul. SVU made one of two free-throws with 9.1 seconds to go while RC's final attempt to tie the game fell short.
  • Beahm was 12-of-18 from the floor and 12 of her 18 boards were offensive. Bridget Holleran had 16 points for Roanoke. Livengood had 12 and Foster had eight. The Maroons shot 39% from the field, but were 0-of-13 from three-point range, while SVU was 12-of-25 from beyond the arc.

Up Next: Roanoke will be off until Monday when it travels to Averett for a 6:00 p.m. game in Danville, Va.
