The Lead: Cary Beahm and Bridget Holleran each scored 21 points as Roanoke defeated Washington and Lee 74-60 Saturday afternoon in Lexington, Va.
How it Happened:
- Beahm recorded a game-high 12 rebounds and Allison Yeaw came of the bench for 14 points in the victory.
- The Generals were led by Emily Perszky with 22 points followed by Taylor Casey with 14.
- Roanoke shot 43% from the field going 31-for-73 while Washington and Lee went 21-for-54 for 39%.
- The Maroons forced 20 turnovers from W&L, scoring 23 points off turnovers while committing only five.
- With the score tied 13-13 with 2:47 left in the first, Roanoke closed out the quarter with an 8-2 run sparked by a three from Yeaw to go up 21-15.
- RC kept its lead throughout the second quarter, gaining a 18 point advantage at the half capped by another three from Yeaw.
- W&L closed the gap to five with just under five minutes to play in the third as a Perszyk lay-up made it 49-44 Roanoke.
- Holleran sank a three with 7:24 left in the contest to put Roanoke up 65-52. The Maroons would hold a double-digit lead the remainder of the way, securing the win.
