The Lead: Seventh-seeded Washington and Lee outscored 10th seeded Roanoke by 17 points in the third quarter to break open a close game and win 88-79 in the First-Round of the 2017 ODAC Women's Basketball Tournament.

How it Happened

  • In her final game as a Maroon, senior Cary Beahm scored 21 points and grabbed nine rebounds. She finishes her career with 1,466 points which is third all-time in RC Women's Basketball history.
  • Beahm was joined in double-figures by fellow senior Bridget Holleran who had 18 points and Chris Martin who had 14 points. Molly Hassell chipped in with nine points. Holleran also dished out a game-high 10 assists.
  • W&L's Taylor Casey came off the bench to score a game-high 32 points for the Generals. Emily Perszyk had 21 points for Washington and Lee as well.
  • Roanoke was down 34-25 in the first-half before a Holleran jumper with 2:31 to go sparked what would prove to a be a 10-4 run for the Maroons to close the half.
  • W&L took that 38-35 lead to the locker room then came out in the second-half and used an 11-3 run to start the third quarter, pulling ahead 49-38 with 7:48 left in the third.
  • After a Holleran three-point play made the score 56-45 with 2:29 to go in the quarter, W&L used an 11-2 run to head to the fourth quarter with a 67-47 lead.
