Maroons Conclude Florida Trip With 70-49 Loss to Wisconsin-Oshkosh

  • The Short Story: The Roanoke women's basketball team dropped their final game of the Daytona Beach Shootout 2022 to the Wisconsin-Oshkosh Titans, 70-49, on Tuesday afternoon. Rose Sande led the Maroons with 16 points.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The Maroons led for most of the first quarter before Oshkosh made a three pointer with 3:53 left to take a 10-8 lead. A three by Peyton Kirchner allowed Roanoke to retake the lead with just over two minutes left in the quarter but a quick 5-0 by the Titans gave the Wisconsin school a 15-12 lead after 10 minutes.
  • The Maroons pulled even with the Titans at 22-22 with 6:03 left before halftime, however Oshkosh used a 12-1 run over the next five minutes to take a 34-23 lead with just under a minute left in the half. A jump shot by JaBryah Haverkamp pulled the maroons within nine at 34-25 at the break.
  • The third quarter saw Roanoke pull within four at 39-35 with 1:22 left in the period before the Titans answered back with a three and layup to extend their lead back to nine with 36 seconds left. The Titans would keep that point lead heading into the final quarter, 46-37.  
  • In the final 10 minutes the Titans outscored the Maroons 24-12 to keep Roanoke at bay before settling for a 70-49 win.

BY THE NUMBERS

  • Sande finished with the game-high 16 points to lead the Maroons.
  • All 11 Roanoke players who saw the court finished with at least one rebound, led by Sayre Brandstatter, Lauren Keel, and Madison Nereu with four boards each.

UP NEXT

  • The Maroons will return home on Thursday, December 29 when they host the 2022 Susan Dunagan Holiday Classic at the Cregger Center.
  • Roanoke will first take on Eastern at 5 p.m. on Dec. 29 followed by a matchup between Washington (Md.) and NJCU at 7 p.m.
  • The consolation game will take place on Friday, December 30 at 5 p.m. followed by the championship game at 7 p.m.
