• The Short Story: The Roanoke women's basketball team led 47-35 at the half en route to a 79-66 win over the Washington College Shorewomen in the championship game of the 2022 Susan Dunagan Holiday Classic. Rose Sande led all scorers with 25 points in the win.

HOW IT HAPPENED

• The Shorewomen opened the game with four quick points just 45 seconds in the game before the Maroons answered back with a 10-2 run that culminated with a jumper by JaBryah Haverkamp. WC pulled within one at 15-14 with 2:27 left in the quarter. However, Roanoke extended their lead to five by the end of the period, 24-19.
• The second quarter saw the Maroons nearly match their first period offensive output with 23 more points while holding WC to just 16 points. Roanoke led by as many as 14 but kept the 12 point lead at the break at halftime.
• WC made a run to start the third quarter, scoring the first seven points on the period, cutting the lead to five at 47-42 with 6:13 on the clock. Sayre Brandstatter pushed the Maroons' lead back to double digits with a pair of free throws with 2:04 left in the period before WC cut the lead to eight at 54-46 heading into the fourth quarter.
• The Maroons opened the final period on a 12-4 to push their lead back to 16 with 5:59 left in the game. A run by the Shorewomen midway through the period pulled the visitors within nine at 2:52 left in the game. The two teams went back and forth at the free-throw line with WC getting within seven with just 50.7 seconds left. A pair of free throws by Brandstatter put the lead back to nine with 41.8 seconds left in the game.
• For their efforts both Haverkamp and Lauren Keel were named to the All-Tournament team with Haverkamp taking home Tournament MVP honors.

BY THE NUMBERS

• Sande's 25 points led three Maroons in double figures as Peyton Kirchner finished with 11 and Haverkamp finished with 10.
