HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The Maroons scored first and led 8-5 with 6:00 left in the first quarter. A 5-0 run by the Pacers over the next 2:19 saw WPU take their first and only lead of the game. A free throw and a layup by Morgan Micallef put the Roanoke back on top and they did not give up the lead once again. The two teams went back and forth for the rest of the period with the Maroons leading 19-13 after 10 minutes.
  • The second quarter saw the Roanoke slowly begin to pull away, scoring an identical 19 points that they had in the first quarter. However, they kept the Pacers to one point less than their first-quarter total to lead 38-25 at the break.
  • A 15-5 run by the Maroons to start the second half saw the lead expand to 24 points at 53-29. Once again the teams decided to nearly go basket-for-basket as Roanoke was able to score 13 and the Pacers score nine the rest of the quarter.
  • Several Maroons saw action in the fourth quarter with seven players scoring in the period for Roanoke that had not scored on the night. Despite WPU scoring more in the fourth than they had in previous quarters, the Maroons still outscored them by three for the 90-60 win.
