Women's Lacrosse Wins Third Straight, Defeat Randolph 20-6
LYNCHBURG - The Roanoke College women's lacrosse team won its third consecutive game on Friday, defeating Randolph College 20-6 in Old Dominion Athletic Conference action.  The Maroons now have a record of 4-3, 4-2 in the ODAC, while the WildCats are 2-9, 0-6 ODAC.
 
Roanoke has strung together three consecutive wins this season.  The last time the Maroons won three in a row was between April 12-19, defeating Randolph, Hollins and Randolph-Macon.
 
Randolph scored the first goal of the game just one minute into the contest, as Erin Campbell connected on a player-up goal.  Roanoke got on a roll just a minute later as Meredith Bigelow scored the Maroons first goal, assisted by Courtney McCar.tin.  McCartin assisted the next goal as well, as Allison Beames found the back of the net for a 2-1 lead.  McCartin wasn't finished, as she scored the next two goals for Roanoke, one off of a free position shot, the other assisted by Nicole Zelnik.  After Randolph's Casey Coleman scored, Roanoke put together another four goal run.  During this six minute span, Darragh Evarts, Julia Galanto, Bigelow and McCartin all slipped a shot past the keeper.  Halfway through the first half, Roanoke had built an 8-2 lead.
 
Randolph stopped the Roanoke streak with back-to-back goals, but Roanoke closed out the final seven minutes of the half with six unanswered goals.  Zelnik and Bigelow scored two each during the run, while Evarts and Haymaker had one apiece.  At the end of the first half, Roanoke led 14-4.
 
Hamaker made the first goal of the second half at the 28:40 mark, assisted by Zelnik.  Randolph's Taylor Riccardi scored for the WildCats on a free position shot, cutting the team's deficit to 10, 15-5.  Haymaker scored again with the assist from Zelnik, increasing Roanoke's lead to 11.  Evarts scored back to back goals in under two minutes, both unassisted.  The WildCats scored one last time with 15:10 to play, as Taylor Klevenz scored the team's sixth goal.  Roanoke held off on scoring until the final moments of the game.  With 1:28 to play, Madison Levine scored an unassisted goal.  Samantha Krackow scored the final goal with the help of Jordan Visser in the final seconds.  Roanoke picked up the ODAC win, 20-6.
 
Darragh Evarts and Meredith Bigelow led the Maroons in scoring, potting four goals each.  The pair also finished the contest with five draw controls and one assist apiece.  Nicole Zelnik, who tallied two goals and four assists on the night, also led the team with four ground balls.  Makenzie Haymaker put up three goals off five shots. Lauren Curtin played a total of 42 minutes making six saves in the game.
 
Taylor Riccardi and Taylor Klevenz each put up two goals for the WildCats, while Casey Coleman and Erin Campbell scored one apiece.  Klevenz also had the team's lone assist for the contest.  Samantha Fagone played all 60 minutes between the pipes and made 18 saves.
 
The Maroons led in shots 47-19, while winning 19 of the 26 draw controls in the game.  Roanoke also led in ground balls 20-13, while scoring on four free position shots.
 
Roanoke returns to action on Thursday, April 9th as they play host to Sweet Briar College.  That contest is scheduled for a 4:00 PM start in Kerr Stadium.
