The Lead: Roanoke dropped an 11-10 decision to Meredith in overtime as the Maroons opened up the 2017 season.

How it Happened

  •  Courtney McCartin had seven points on the day, scoring four goals and dishing out three assists. Sarah Kroenberger and Allison Beames each had two goals for RC as well. Emma Blair made six saves for the Maroons in the cage.
  • Meredith outshot Roanoke 22-18 and held a 14-8 edge in groundballs. RC held a slim 12-11 lead in draw controls with Katie Clements grabbing a team-high four.
  • Roanoke jumped out to a 3-0 lead with 22:14 to go in the first-half after goals from Jenn Schwechheimer, McCartin and Lainey Decker.
  • Molly Miller scored seven seconds after Decker and sparked a four goal run for Meredith, capped by Holly Hite at the 12:27 mark.
  • A McCartin goal with 3:45 left in the half tied the game at 4-4, but Hite responded over a minute later to put Meredith in front 5-4.
  • Meredith took a 6-5 lead into the intermission but McCartin tied the game a minute and a half into the second half, leveling the game at 6-6.
  • Meredith scored back-to-back goals to take an 8-6 lead with 19 minutes left in the game before Beames scored a pair to tie the game at eight with 14:28 to go in the game.
  • McCartin would give RC a 9-8 lead with 9:28 to play. Meredith tied the game, then Kroneberger pushed RC in front 10-9 with 4:37 to go but Meredith tied the game less than a minute late.
  • The score remained that way until six seconds left in overtime when Carlee Joseph scored to give Meredith the win.
