The Lead: The Roanoke College Women's Lacrosse team scored its first win of the season with a 7-6 victory over Shenandoah on Tuesday evening in Winchester, Va.

How it Happened:

  • Allison Beames scored four goals for the Maroons in the victory. Courtney McCartin, Morgan Barlow and Lainey Decker each scored for RC as well. McCartin dished out two assists, while Decker had one helper.
  • Katie Clements had four groundballs and two draw controls, while Emma Boris had three groundballs and one draw control for RC. Emma Blair made seven saves in the cage for RC.
  • Roanoke outshot Shenandoah 18-17, while SU held a 22-15 edge in groundballs.
  • The game was scoreless until the 18:53 mark of the first-half when Beames scored to give RC the lead.
  • Annie McCorry tied the game with just under 15 minutes to go in the half, before a goal by Beames with 1:31 to play sent the teams to the locker room with RC up 2-1.
  • Roanoke came out in the second-half and scored four goals in the first 10 minutes of play. Beames scored to open the half to make it 3-1. Barlow and Decker scored then a McCartin goal with 20:10 to play made it 6-1.
  • Back-to-back goals by SU cut it to 6-3 with 14:36 to play before Beames made it 7-3 with 12:30 to go in the game.
  • Shenandoah rallied scoring three goals in the final nine minutes but that would be as close as the Hornets would get as RC held on for the win.
