The Lead: Ellie Armstrong notched seven goals as Roanoke defeated New Paltz 15-11 Saturday afternoon in Salem. 

How it Happened: 

  • Lainey Decker got the Maroons on the board early with a goal off a pass from Maggie Lewis just 13 seconds into the contest.
  • Ellie Armstrong kept the scoring going with a goal of her own 40 seconds later to make it 2-0 as a part of a six goal run by Roanoke in the first 12 minutes of play, with the final coming from Katie Clements off a free position shot to make it 6-0.
  • New Paltz got on the board at the 15:41 mark with a goal from Amy Hofer. The Hawks then went on to score four more goals to close the gap to 6-5.
  • Armstrong and Jenn Schwechheimer scored back-to-back goals followed by a goal from Mckenna Polak in the final minute to send RC into intermission with a 9-6 edge.
  • New Paltz scored four of the first five goals in the second half to even the game at 10-10 with 15 minutes left in regulation.
  • Armstrong scored two straight goals atn14:21 and the 12:10 mark to give RC its final lead of the game at 12-10.
  • Polak closed out the game with the final goal with just over four minutes left off a pass from Armstrong.
  • Roanoke held a 34-21 edge in shots while New Paltz had a 19-17 edge in ground balls. The Maroons won 14-of-25 draw controls on the day.
  • Armstrong led the way with a game-high seven goals followed by Schwechheimer with three. In goal, Frances Sefcik made five saves while Nicole Sheintul made 11 for the Hawks.
