The Lead: The Roanoke women's lacrosse team opened play in the 2022 season when they hosted Southern Virginia on Thursday night. The Maroons wasted little time in building a 15-0 halftime lead. The second half would see Roanoke control the ball for most of the 30 minutes on their way to a 19-1 victory over the Knights.

How it Happened:

  • Libby Bowman began her Roanoke career with a pair of goals surrounding a score by Riley Chase as Roanoke took a 3-0 lead. The first quarter would end with Roanoke holding a 10-0 advantage. Nicole Harrison and Emerson Foster each scored short-handed goals and the period ended with back-to-back scores by Tiernan Connor.
  • Lilly Blair set up a Maddie Stopkoski score to start the second quarter. Chase added another goal and Foster completed the hat-trick and RC took a 15-0 advantage into the half.
  • Chase tallied her third and Blair scored as Roanoke added to their lead, 17-1.
  • Grace Koutouzis scored twice in the closing frame as Roanoke finished off the Knights for the 19-1 victory.
  • Foster and Chase had three goals while five other Maroons scored twice. Kyleigh Chickering got the win in goal, registering five saves while Hallie Redding come in relief and made a pair of stops.

Up Next: Roanoke will travel to Puerto Rico over Spring Break and face Ursinus on Tuesday, March 8th.
