Maroons blank Hollins, 7-0

Roanoke, Va. --- Meredith Grunewald had her third hat trick of her career in a 7-0 win over Hollins this evening. The Maroons improved to 3-3-1, 1-1 in the ODAC. The Maroons are now 22-0 against their cross-county rival.
Jessica Welfare helped the women get on the board early with back-to-back assists to give the Maroons a 2-0 lead just seven minutes in the contest. Margaret Houston got a feed from Welfare as she scored off a one-on-one situation for the first goal of the game.
She then found Grunewald for the first of her three goals then scored off an assist from Kristen McCoy with 14 minutes into the match to give Roanoke a 3-0 lead and cruised onto their third win of the season.
Grunewald completed the hat trick early in the second half as Dorie Gedridge followed her act with her first multi-goal game of her career later in the half. Lindsay Hunt also scored her first goal of her career in the ODAC win.
The Maroons outshot Hollins, 36-7 on the afternoon. Lindsay Kooiman and Jessica Pease combined for five saves for Roanoke while Elizabeth Bills finished with 15 for Hollins.
The women will travel to Newport News, Va. to take on Christopher Newport in non-conference action this weekend. The Maroons are 3-2 all-time against the Captains with each of the five meetings decided by one goal. Game time is set for Saturday, Sept. 20 at 7 p.m.
