Maroons top Emory & Henry, 2-1 in ODAC Women's Soccer Action
EMORY, Va. --- Roanoke rallied from a 1-0 first half deficit to knock off Emory & Henry, 2-1 Friday evening. The Maroons are now 7-2, 3-0 in the ODAC. The Wasps dropped to 6-3 overall, 1-2 in the conference.
The Maroons, who are now 5-0 on the road this season, out-shot Emory & Henry, 28-1, 11-1 in shots on goal. They also held a 6-0 corner kick advantage as they controlled the Wasps on paper.
The Wasps got on the board early in the first half off a penalty kick from Kellie Flaherty to make it 1-0 just seven minutes into play.
In the 32nd minute, McKenzie Garst (Roanoke, VA, Cave Spring)free kick found Rebekah Adams (Springfield, VA, West Springfield)as her header sailed into the right side to tie the score at 1-1.
Garst would strike gold again off a corner kick as she found Stephanie Parenteau (Virginia Beach, VA, Kellam)to score her fourth game-winner of the season at the 54th minute.
Hayley Poland finished the evening with nine for the Wasps while Lindsay Kooiman (Fredricksburg, VA, Mountain View)didn't register a save in her seventh win of the season in goal for the Maroons.
The women return to action on Wednesday, Sept. 30 as they host Washington & Lee at Kerr Stadium. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
