Jessica Welfare Earns VaSID All-State First-Team Honors in Women's Soccer
Senior Jessica Welfare (Roanoke, VA, Hidden Valley) was named First-Team VaSID All-State honors announced Monday afternoon. The team captain earned state recognition for the third-straight season, including back-to-back first-team accolades.
A NSCAA First-Team All-South Atlantic Region selection for the third-straight season, Welfare was named First-Team All-ODAC for the fourth-consecutive year at the midfielder position. She was named D3Kicks.com All-South Atlantic Region following a successful freshman campaign in which the Maroons posted a school-record 18-4-1 record and advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament.
Welfare, who was the first women's soccer player at Roanoke to earn First-Team All-ODAC and all-region all four years, finished the fall with six goals and three assists for 15 points. She also totaled 30 shots, 16 on goal including three game-winners.
The Maroons finished 13-4-3, including the programs' second undefeated conference mark with a 9-0-2 record. Below is a list of the 2010 VaSID College Division All-State Women's Soccer Team.
