Roanoke Wins ODAC-Opener, 8-0 Over Randolph
SALEM, Va--- Roanoke topped Randolph, 8-0 in their conference-opener Friday evening at Kerr Stadium. The Maroons improved to 3-3-1, 1-0 in the ODAC, while the Wildcats fell to 3-3, 0-1 in conference play.
The win snapped a three-game win-streak for the Wildcats and was the 31st consecutive series win for the Maroons. The goal differential is 46-1 over the last five meetings. It was the first victory at home for Roanoke this season.
Stephanie Parenteau (Virginia Beach, VA, Kellam) led Roanoke with her first career hat trick, giving her a team-high five goals on the year. She became just the 10th player in Roanoke history to record such a feat. Rebekah Adams (Springfield, VA, West Springfield) and Katelyn LePore (Troutville, VA, Lord Botetourt) both scored a career-high two goals on the night while McKenzie Garst (Roanoke, VA, Cave Spring) recorded a goal and an assist.
Adams got the action started early as she scored her second goal of the year and the eventual game-winner just five minutes into play. Parenteau and LaPore then scored their first goals of the match to finish the half with a 3-0 halftime lead.
The Maroons piled it on in the second half as they scored four goals in six minutes. Cindy Suttora (Long Island, NY, Our Lady of Mercy Academy) found Parenteau for her second score, seven minutes into the second half. Garst then crossed a pass to Adams to make it 5-0 with 36 minutes remaining. Just a minute later, Garst was able to find the back of the net for her second goal of the season. Sarah Bradley (Richmond, VA, Deep Run) recorded her second assist of the year to Parenteau to complete the hat trick in the 56th minute. LaPore finished the night off with a nifty shot from the right side of the box to give the final score.
Lindsay Kooiman (Fredricksburg, VA, Mountain View) picked up her third win of the year for the Maroons, while All-ODAC performer Victoria Johnson took the loss in goal for the Wildcats, collecting 11 saves on the night.
Roanoke attacked all night long, outshooting Randolph 35-1. Bradley let the team with 11 shots for the evening and now has a team-high 34 shots on the season.
The Maroons will return to action Sunday Sept. 19th as they host Christopher Newport at Kerr Stadium. Game time is set for a 3:00 p.m. start.
