Virginia Wesleyan Advances to ODAC Championship with 2-0 Victory over Roanoke
VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. --- Virginia Wesleyan advances to the ODAC Championship with a 2-0 victory over Roanoke Wednesday afternoon. The Maroons, who fell just short of its 12th ODAC Championship appearance, slips to 14-5-1, while the Marlins improved to 18-2.

The Marlins, who have defeated the Maroons in four-straight conference semifinal matches, scored just five minutes into action as Bre Ingargiola's shot from 15-yards out found the right side of the net. They were able to control possession for most of the first half and went into the locker room with the one-goal lead.

The Maroons put the pressure on the Marlins in a more exciting second half with 13 shots combined by the two teams. It got a little more physical as well with a total of 20 fouls called during play.

The score remained the same until Jessica Edelman put the Maroons away for good with less than four minutes remaining to seal their fourth-straight trip to the conference championship.

Rebekah Adams (Springfield, VA, West Springfield) led Roanoke with four shots, three on goal, followed by ODAC All-Tournament selection Carmen Graves (Christiansburg, VA, Christiansburg) with two shots on target. Four players had three shots on the evening for the Marlins.

Roanoke was outshot, 13-7, but both teams had five shots on goal. Erica Keil collected five saves for the Marlins, while Carolyn Sarbacher (Dunkirk, MD, Northern) tallied three saves for the Maroons. She joined Graves on the ODAC All-Tournament team. VWC held a 5-1 advantage on corner kicks.

VWC, ranked #15 in the country, are 6-2 against Roanoke in ODAC Tournament contests. They also hold a 17-13-2 series advantage.

The women will await word from the NCAA on their post-season fate. The NCAA Div. III Women's Soccer Tournament Selection Show is on Monday.
