Women's Soccer Falls in Penalty Kicks to Bridgewater in ODAC Tournament
BRIDGEWATER - After being tied 2-2 at the end of 110 minutes of play, the Roanoke College women's soccer team fell 4-2 in penalty kicks to Bridgewater College in the opening round of the Old Dominion Athletic Conference Women's Soccer Tournament on Saturday.

The Maroons finish their season with a record of 10-6-3, 8-3-1 in ODAC play. Roanoke fell to Bridgewater earlier in the season by the margin of 2-0. The Maroons finished the regular season with a record of 10-6-2, and were 8-3-1 in ODAC play. Roanoke had a tough road to the tournament, going 0-1-2 against teams ranked in the NSCAA Division III national poll (#1 Emory, #5 Virginia Wesleyan, #10 Lynchburg).

Neither team scored in the first 45 minutes of the contest, however Brittney Harris took advantage of a situation and scored just 18 seconds into the second half to put the Eagles up 1-0. Just nine minutes later, Cindy Suttora beat the keeper to the far post with a goal, assisted by Carmen Graves to tie the game at 1-1.

At 70:28, Bridgewater's Michelle Viegas took the lead again for the Eagles, with a goal from about 25 yards out, making the score 2-1. But, four minutes later, Stephanie Parenteau scored the equalizer, assisted by Graves, tying the game at 2-2. The score would remain locked up at two through two overtime periods, sending the contest to penalty kicks.

Roanoke missed their first and third penalty kicks, while Rebekah Adams and Maya Kantor made the second and fourth kicks, respectively. However, the Eagles did not miss any of the four kicks they took, which allows them to advance to the semi-finals of the ODAC Tournament.

Roanoke outshot Bridgewater 17-13, and led in corner kicks 3-2. Stephanie Parenteau led the Maroons in shots with five, followed by Rebekah Adams with four. Sarah Dvorak and Carolyn Sarbacher split equal time in the goal, tallying three saves between them.
