SALEM – The Roanoke College women's soccer team defeated Sweet Briar College on Wednesday night by the score of 5-0. The Maroons sit with a record of 3-6-1; 1-3 ODAC, while the Vixen have a record 2-4-1; 0-4 in ODAC play.

The Maroons defeated Sweet Briar in a match for each team's first conference win. The Maroons have a 30-2-1 all-time record against the Vixen, winning the last 16 matches in a row. Roanoke has scored five or more goals on Sweet Briar eight times in the last 10 meetings.

Nathalie Torres scored the Maroons first goal of the game in the opening moments of the contest off an assist by Marlana Barnard. The Maroons wouldn't score again until the 30^th minute when Lauren O'Brien scored unassisted into the left side of the net. Roanoke's third goal was Torres' second goal, as O'Brien jumped in on the assist to give Roanoke the 3-0 lead with just seconds remaining in the first half.

Roanoke came out swinging again in the second, as Caitlin Ashley scored just two minutes into the period off of a pass from Maya Kantor. Roanoke's final goal came at the 51^st minute when Abbe Guarino scored off of a pass from O'Brien. Roanoke walked away with the 5-0 victory over Sweet Briar.

The Maroons outshot the Vixen 26-1. Lauren O'Brien led the Maroons in total shots with eight, followed by Marlana Barnard with seven. O'Brien finished with four points, with two goals and one assist. Roanoke played three goalkeepers, with Carolyn Sarbacher playing 45 minutes.

The Maroons return to action on Saturday, October 5^th as they travel to Ashland to take on Randolph-Macon College. That contest is scheduled for a 3:00 PM start.
