The Lead: A pair of second half goals lifted the Maroons to a 3-1 win over Randolph Saturday afternoon in Salem.

How it Happened:

  • Roanoke took a 1-0 lead over the WildCats 10 minutes into the contest off a goal from Emily Whitaker. Whitaker's first shot was blocked outside the box, she regained control and her next shot hit off the cross-bar and across the goal line.
  • Six minutes later, Jillian Barnard tried to extend RC's lead off a shot that hit the top left part of the goal post. Barnard's shot was one of three RC shots to hit the post in the first-half.
  • Following a Roanoke foul, Randolph evened the game with under four minutes left in the half off a penalty kick from Patricia Garrett that slipped off the hands of Roanoke keeper Chris Martin and just across the goal line to level the match at 1-1.
  • Abby Hobby scored the go ahead goal for the Maroons at the 52:25 mark for a 2-1 lead.
  • Jillian Barnard tacked on the final goal of the game off a pass from Abbe Guarino with 71 minutes on the clock, securing the 3-1 win.
  • Martin made two saves in net for RC, while Stephanie Quirk made 14 stops for Randolph.
  • Roanoke outshot Randolph 34-6 and it had all eight corner kicks in the match.
