The Lead: A pair of first-half goals lifted the Roanoke College Women's Soccer team to a 2-0 victory over Bridgewater on Saturday afternoon in Salem.
How it Happened:
- The Maroons wasted no time getting on the board when in the sixth minute, Megan Branigan slid a pass to Emily Whitaker who lofted a shot from 35 yards away over the head of BC keeper Hayley Talbott to give RC the lone goal it would need.
- The score remained that way until the 27th minute when Meagan Ryan sent a crossing pass to Jillian Barnard who headed the ball on the run past Talbott to make it 2-0.
- Chris Martin made seven saves on the day to preserve the lead, including four stops in the second-half.
- RC held a 14-10 edge in shots, while BC had the only corner kick of the match.
- Prior to the match, Roanoke honored its eight seniors playing in their final home match. The group has led RC to 41 wins over their four years.
Up Next: Roanoke will be back in action on Wednesday in the quarterfinals of the 2016 ODAC Championship Tournament against an opponent to be announced.
