The Lead: The Roanoke Women's Soccer team opened its season with a 1-1 tie versus Gettysburg on Saturday at the University of Lynchburg. The match was called in the 97th minute due to lighting. 

How it Happened

• Gettysburg got on the board first when Virginia Sanford scored an unassisted goal in the 35th minute of play.
• The score remained that way through halftime and into the 52nd minute when Ellie Schad got the equalizer for the Maroons.
• In overtime, Chris Martin two of her eight saves and Skyler Hayes cleared a Gettysburg shot off the line to keep the scored tied.
• Gettysburg outshot RC 21-7 and held an 8-4 edge in corner kicks.
