The Short Story: The Roanoke College women's soccer team scored less than three minutes into the ODAC contest at Randolph and the defense held the rest of the way as the Maroons picked up a 5-0 shutout win over the WildCats.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Cameron Shackford received a pass from Eliza Ryan at the 2:50 mark and fired a goal passed WildCat goalie Alexis Bossi to put the Maroons ahead 1-0.
- A little less than 10 minutes later, Shackford took a pass from MC Petrucelli and added an insurance goal with Roanoke leading 2-0 at halftime.
- The second half opened quickly as Shackford returned the favor to Petrucelli as the latter scored just 3:04 into the period, putting the Maroons ahead 3-0.
- Morgan O'Neill scored four minutes later, unassisted.
- Shackford completed a hat trick, scoring the final goal of the contest at 65:30, unassisted.
BY THE NUMBERS
- The hat trick by Shackford was the second by a Maroon this season after Petrucelli scored three goals against EMU on September 24th.
- It was also the second hat trick on the evening for a Maroon student-athlete as Grace Vernarelli of the field hockey team scored three goals in the win over Ferrum.
- Roanoke fired 26 shots in the game to just one for the WildCats, a save by Roanoke goalie Carrington Lippi, who collected the win in 70:53 of play. Victoria Correll played the final 19:07 for Roanoke in goal.
