Bird & McGrath Named ODAC Swimming Athletes of the Week

Forest, Va. – Roanoke College's Reilly Bird and Nick McGrath have been named the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Swimming Athletes of the Week as the league announced its weekly awards on Monday.

Bird, a freshman from Port Hope, Ontario, picks up her second weekly honor after helping Roanoke defeat Virginia Wesleyan in a dual meet. Bird won twice individually in the meet, posting a time of 24.88 seconds in the 50-yard freestyle and 1:00.34 in the 100-yard backstroke. The freestyle time is second-fastest in the ODAC, while her backstroke time is 0.01 seconds from duplicating the same classification.

McGrath, a freshman from Centreville, Va., is the first men's swimmer to win a weekly award in Roanoke's young history. McGrath won a pair of individual events and aided the Maroons in a relay victory to help Roanoke to a dual meet victory over VWU. McGrath won the 50-yard freestyle in 22.13 seconds, which ranks sixth on the ODAC top times list. He added a victory in the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:02.43, which is third-fastest in the league so far this season. McGrath and his teammates claimed a win in the 200-yard medley relay in 1:45.66, which is third in the conference.
