Meet: Roanoke at the 2020 ODAC Swim Championships

The Lead: Thursday marked the first day of the 2020 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Swim Championships. The RC men and women each finished second in the first event of the meet, the 800 Freestyle Relay.

Women's highlights:

• The relay team of Hannah Petty, Grace Fountain, Izzy Mack, and Maria Vinson set a program record with a time of 7:50.23. In the lead off leg, Petty broke the school record for the 200 with a time of 1:57.31.

Men's highlights:

• In the 800 Freestyle Relay the quartet of Ben Tate, Josh Rauch, Cole Hensen, and Brian Grimmett earned second place points. The final time of 6:55.71 was not only a school record but it broke the ODAC Championship meet record of 6:56.26. Tate got the relay off with an opening leg time of 1:41.59, breaking the RC record for the 200.

Up next:  Roanoke will open up day two in second place, trailing just Washington and Lee, as there will be 10 different individual and relay events.
