20 Maroons Earn All Conference Honors

Meet: Roanoke at the 2020 ODAC Swim Championships

The Lead: Sunday marked the final day of the 2020 ODAC Swim Championships. The RC men and women both finished runner-up as 20 Maroons were named All-ODAC for their performances over the, four-day, event.

Women's highlights:

  • A quartet of RC women placed in the top six of the 1650 Freestyle. Izzy Mack posted a final time of 17:31.34 to finish runner-up while Grace Fountain touched third. Julia Volz finished 5th, just .16 of a second behind, while Quinn Keatley came home 6th.
  • Maddie Andrews posted a 3rd place effort in the 200 Backstroke when she touched at 2:06.02.
  • The winning time in the 100 Freestyle was 51.48, Kimberly Large (4th) touched in 52.70 and Hannah Petty (5th) finished in 53.28 giving the Maroons another pair of top five finishes.
  • Sarah Virginia Scott earned all-conference honors when she placed 6th in the 200 Breaststroke.
  • In the final individual event, Maria Vinson collected 5th place points with a time of 2:13.01 in the 200 Fly.
  • Petty, Vinson, and Large teamed with Reilly Bird for a runner-up finish in the 400 Freestyle Relay.
  • The RC women finished with 625.5 points, trailing only the Generals of Washington and Lee with 991.5 while Randolph-Macon rounded out the top three (560.5).

Men's highlights:

  • On day after setting the ODAC and Championship Meet record in the 400 IM and 100 Breaststroke, Connor Kinkema was again making history. Kinkema bested his record time of 2:02.14 in the 200 Breaststroke when he touched the wall in a time of 2:02.09.
  • Not to be outdone, Josh Rauch took aim at the ODAC and Meet records in the 1650 Freestyle. Rauch posted a time of 16:23.58 to put his name in the conference record books by overtaking the Meet record of 16:26.03 and the ODAC mark of 16:25.98. In the same event, Jake Bowery finished 5th with a time of 16:59.10,
  • The 100 Freestyle would see Brian Grimmett come home 3rd while Ben Tate would add a 2nd place finish in the 200 Fly.
  • Tate and Grimmett would return to help Xavier Williams and Cole Hensen post a final time of 3:08.46 to finish runner-up in the 400 Freestyle Relay.
  • Roanoke would finish the event in 2nd place with 652.5 points. Washington and Lee would sweep the titles with 887.5 and once again Randolph-Macon would finish 3rd (432).

During the event 20 Roanoke College women and men would be named to the All-ODAC Teams.
