Mara Briggs Named South/Southeast Female Field Athlete of the Year

Salem, Va. – Roanoke College Track & Field high jumper Mara Briggs has been named the 2018 NCAA Division III South/Southeast Female Field Athlete of the Year by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).

Award winners were determined by a vote of USTFCCCA member coaches. Only those individuals from USTFCCCA member programs are eligible for awards.

Briggs, a junior from Marion, Va. will be competing in this weekend's NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field Championships in Birmingham, Ala. She earned a spot in the field after she set a new school record in the high jump with a mark of 1.69 last Saturday. She currently is tied for eighth in all of Dlll with that mark which is tops in the south/southeast region. Back on Feb. 25 Briggs won the Old Dominion Athletic Conference Championship with a jump of 1.63.
