Volleyball defeats Southern Virginia in Five Sets to Stay Unbeaten

Buena Vista, Va. --- The Roanoke College volleyball team found a way to win in a packed gym on the campus of Southern Virginia this evening. The Maroons won in five sets to improve to 9-0 to keep their unbeaten season alive. The Knights dropped to 6-3 on the season.
The Knights won the first set, 25-21 before the Maroons bounced back to win the next two, 25-18 and 25-23 heading into the fourth set.
SVA forced a fifth set, winning 25-21 in impressive fashion, rallying from down three points late in the set to force the final set.
Roanoke kicked it in high gear in the final set, winning 15-8 and won their first match over the Knights since the 2003 season. They are now 4-6 against Southern Virginia.
Maggie Wagner had a phenomenal night, leading the Maroons with a season-best 17 kills along with 17 digs. Kelsey Largen had 14 kills, three blocks and two aces to pace the Maroons.
Rachel Hawkins led the Maroons with six total blocks in the middle along with six kills. Caitlyn Long had 19 digs and two aces while Kate Feldman had 52 assists to lead Roanoke in their best start to a season in school-history.
The women will travel up I-81 again on Thursday as they take on Mary Baldwin in Staunton, Va. at 6:30 p.m. The Maroons are 8-0 all-time against MBC and hasn't lost a set to the Squirrels in a match since 1997.
