Volleyball Finishes 1-3 in 2011 Maroon Classic
SALEM --- Roanoke Volleyball finished the weekend 1-3 in the 2011 Maroon Classic. The Maroons record now stands at 4-16.

The women fell to Methodist (3-0) and Southern Virginia (3-0) on Friday evening. On Saturday, the Maroons defeated Ferrum, 3-0 and dropped a 3-1 decision to Averett to close out the weekend.

Kelsey Largen (Roanoke, VA, Cave Spring) passed Ashlei Tripp for fourth on the all-time kills list at Roanoke with 977 after this weekend. Largen also moved into seventh all-time in career digs with 842, which is 27 shy of sixth on that list.

Rachel Hawkins (Winchester, VA, Millbrook) also moved into 15th on career kills with 446, nine shy of 14th in that category. She is also 14th in block assists (72), needs five more block solos to be 15th in that category, and her 146 total blocks are 13th. She needs four more blocks to move into 12th all-time at Roanoke. After this week, Shannon Stone (Williamsburg, VA, Lafayette) is now sixth on the career assists list with 1,230.

To open the weekend, the women fell to Methodist (14-4) with scores of 21-25, 13-25 and 18-25. Stone led RC with 19 assists, which tied her weekend-best, as Largen totaled five kills and a team-best six digs.

Against Southern Virginia (11-6), the Maroons lost with scores of 16-25, 17-25 and 13-25. Largen had six kills and five digs while Stone wound up with 10 assists.

On Saturday, Roanoke defeated Ferrum (0-20) in straight sets with scores of 25-17, 25-7 and 25-13. Largen had a weekend-best 13 digs in addition to five kills. Rachel Hawkins had a team-high seven kills as Stone tied her weekend-high with 19 assists in the win.

Averett (16-8) topped Roanoke in the final match of the tournament in four sets with scores of 17-25, 25-20, 16-25 and 10-25. Stone had her best match of the weekend with 19 assists and 17 digs. Largen had seven kills and nine digs while Hawkins had a season-best four blocks and five kills.

The women are back at home on Wednesday, Oct. 12 as they host the Wasps of Emory & Henry. The match is scheduled for a 6:30 p.m. start.
