DANVILLE --- The Roanoke College Volleyball team opened its 2012 season at the Averett Invitational this weekend. The Maroons finished the tournament with a record of 1-3.

In the season-opening match, the Maroons fell to Greensboro in four sets (15-25, 25-18, 23-25, 17-25). Samantha Klosterman led the team with 12 kills, while White finished with 10. Shannon Stone tallied 30 assists, and Alexandra Martin and Mackenzie Tyree posted 17 digs a piece.

In Saturday's evening game, the Maroons were swept by Methodist (15-25, 23-25, 18-25). Stone had 15 assists, while toy added six of her own. Mackenzie Tyree finished with 11 digs, with Martin and Samantha Toy with nine. Allison White accumulated 8 kills and Rachel Kilinski tallied 7.

On Sunday, the Maroons dropped three sets to host school Averett (14-25, 13-25, 22-25). Stone had 9 assists, while Klosterman finished with four kills. Mackenzie Tyree continued to lead the team in digs with 19. Sarah Long tallied three blocks.

Roanoke turned things around in the fourth match as they capped off the weekend with a win over Peace College (17-25, 25-22, 25-17, 26-24). Toy topped the team with 17 assists and Stone followed with 12. Mackenzie Tyree amassed a weekend high 21 digs, and Martin added 11 of her own. Klosterman notched nine kills and White and Kilinski each had eight.

At the end of the tournament Mackenzie Tyree was named to the all tournament team.

The Maroons will return to action on Wednesday, September 5^th as they play host to Lynchburg College in the ODAC home opener. The contest is scheduled for a 6:30 PM start in the Bast Center.
