Even with the loss on Saturday, the Maroons still sit in third place in the ODAC standings, behind Washington & Lee and Randolph-Macon College. This is the fourth time the Maroons have taken Virginia Wesleyan to five sets in the history of the series.
The Maroons won the first and fourth sets, 25-17 and 25-16, respectively. In the second and third sets, Roanoke fell by the margins of 25-17 and 25-21. However in the fifth set, Roanoke had built an 11-10 lead, but the Marlins rattled off four straight points to take a 14-11 advantage. Roanoke closed the gap, but Virginia Wesleyan scored the final point off of a kill from Tiffany Barrett for the 15-13, fifth set win.
Samantha Klostermann led the Maroons in kills with 13, followed by Sarah Long with 10. Mackenzie Tyree finished the match with a team high 19 digs, while Macey Tyree had 14 and Jessica block tallied 11. Block also finished the contest with 22 assists, with Alexandra Martin following with 15. Block also led the team with three service aces.
The Maroons return to action on Wednesday, October 16th as the Maroons take on Washington and Lee University on the road. That contest is scheduled for a 6:30 PM start.
