Volleyball Closes 2014 Season With ODAC Quarterfinal Loss To Lynchburg
LYNCHBURG – The Roanoke College volleyball team closed its season after falling 3-1 (22-25, 16-25, 25-17, 11-25) to Lynchburg College in the 2014 ODAC Tournament quarterfinals.  The #5 seed Maroons finish the 2014 campaign with a record of 21-9, 7-4 in ODAC play, while the #4 seed Hornets advance to the semifinals with a record of 18-12.

Roanoke's 21 win season is the program's best since the team won the same amount of games in 2010.  It also marks the Maroons' sixth 20-win season, all of which have come under head coach Blair Trail.  Trail, who now sits with 287 career wins, can reach the 300 win milestone with a similar performance in 2015.  With seven conference wins in 2014, picking up the seventh against Guilford on Oct. 29, Trail has officially won 100 ODAC matches in her career.  Her 100 ODAC wins are more than half of the conference wins in program history (192).

Freshman Brooke Bostwick led the Maroons in kills with 253 in the 2014 season.  Allison White and Macey Tyree followed right behind Bostwick with 248 and 228 kills, respectively.  Jessica Block dished out 640 assists for Roanoke this season, more than half of the assists by the team (1229).  Alexandra Martin also finished with 404 assists to her credit.  Block also currently leads the ODAC in service aces, putting away 65 this year.  Ryan Hedgepeth finished the year with 310 digs, while Tyree tallied 267 over 30 matches.  Bostwick ranks seventh in the ODAC in total blocks with 74 in her debut season.

Roanoke and Lynchburg battled back and forth in the first set of the night, fighting to a 22-22 tie.  However, Lynchburg won the final three points to take the first set advantage.  Lynchburg also picked up the second set with a 25-16 win.  The Maroons jumped out of the gate hot in the third set, winning the first six points and never looked back, winning 25-17.  However, Lynchburg's 8-1 lead in the fourth frame set the tone, as the Hornets picked up the 3-1 quarterfinal win.

The Maroons were led in Kills by Bostwick, who tallied 10 on the evening.  Sarah Long was right behind with nine kills of her own.  Jessica Block finished the match with 24 assists, while Alexandra Martin dished out eight on the evening.  Ryan Hedgepeth led all players with 19 digs. Bostwick and Logan Graves tied with four block assists in the match.

Four Hornets finished the match with more than ten kills each, with Aricquel Payne leading the charge with 13 kills.  Mackenzie Ross led all players in the match with 42 of the team's 46 assists.  Sam Page tallied 16 digs, while Brittany Crawford tallied 15 of her own.
