LEXINGTON – The Roanoke College volleyball team split a pair of matches on Saturday afternoon in the second day of the Washington & Lee Invitational.  The Maroons fell to Birmingham-Southern 3-2 (22-25, 25-17, 17-25, 25-19, 12-15) and defeated Southern Virginia 3-2 (25-17, 25-21, 24-26, 18-25, 15-10).  The Maroons now have a record of 7-1 after the weekend play.
 
In the loss to Birmingham-Southern, Jessica Block led the Maroons in assists with 27.  She added nine digs to her credit during the game as well.  She was followed in assists by Alexandra Martin, who tallied 17 to go along with three digs.  Allison White led the Maroons in kills with 13, followed by Kylah Blackmore with 11 and Brooke Bostwick with 10.  Olivia Earls had a team-high 13 digs, while Macey Tyree and Allison White tallied 11 each.  White also put away three service aces in the match.
 
Roanoke bounced back in the second match of the day against Southern Virginia with the 3-2 win.  Allison White led the Maroons with 22 kills, while Macey Tyree followed with 12.  Sarah Long also put away nine kills.  Ryan Hedgepeth finished the match with 20 digs, with White tallying 16.  Alexandra Martin and Jessica Block also finished with double-digit digs, dishing out 11 and 10, respectively.  Block also put up an impressive 32 assists, while Martin also tallied 21.  Hedgepeth and White each finished with three service aces as well.
 
The Maroons return to action on Friday and Saturday, September 12-13 as they host the Maroon Classic in the Bast Center.  Roanoke's first match is on Friday at 6:00 PM as they take on Methodist University, followed by Ferrum at 8:00 PM.
