ASHLAND – The Roanoke College volleyball team fell 3-1 (11-25, 27-25, 19-25, 23-25) to Randolph-Macon in its opening Old Dominion Athletic Conference contest in the 2014 season.  The Maroons are now 11-3, 0-1 ODAC, while the Yellow Jackets are now 8-6, 1-0 ODAC.
 
Randolph-Macon took the early one set lead after winning 25-11 in the first frame.  Roanoke trailed 8-3 in the start of the second set, but rallied to take its first lead of the set at 21-20.  The Maroons held the lead in the second set to win 27-25, tying the match at one set apiece.  The two teams stayed locked within one point of each other through 13-13.  However, late in the set, Randolph-Macon won five consecutive points, which led to a 25-19.  The Maroons led late in the second set, holding a five point, 20-15 advantage over the Yellow Jackets.  But once again, Randolph-Macon rallied late, winning 10 of the last 13 points in the match to win, 3-1 on Wednesday.
 
Roanoke was led in kills by Kylah Blackmore, who put away 10 points for the Maroons.  She was followed by Brooke Bostwick, who tallied nine kills on the evening.  Jessica Block was the team leader in assists, dishing out 17, while Alexandra Martin totaled 14 assists.  Ryan Hedgepeth notched 23 digs on the evening, the second most of any player on the night.  Martin ranked second on the team in digs with 11.  Martin and Bostwick also finished with two block assists apiece.
 
Katie Rossberg and Courtney Lowers tied for the most kills on the night with 18 each, followed by Emily Ortiz with 11.  Erin Quin tallied 25 assists, while Bailey Troia finished with 16 assists.  Randolph-Macon's Samantha Sallade accumulated 29 digs in the match, as well.
 
The Maroons return to action on Friday, September 19^th as they take on Randolph College in the Bast Center.  That match is scheduled for 7:00 PM.
