Volleyball Splits Pair of Matches in Regular Season Finale
SALEM – The Roanoke College volleyball team split a pair of matches on Saturday afternoon, defeating Averett 3-2 (25-21, 21-25, 25-23, 25-27, 15-13), but falling to Virginia Wesleyan 3-1 (25-17, 20-25, 20-25, 21-25).  The Maroons finish the regular season with a record of 21-8, 7-4 in ODAC play.
 
The Maroons now advance to the 2014 ODAC Volleyball Tournament, where they enter as a #5 seed.  As the #5 seed in the tournament, the Maroons will travel to take on #4 seed, Lynchburg College on Wednesday, November 5th, with a time that has yet to be set.  The Maroons took Lynchburg all the way to a five set battle on September 20th, but fell to the Hornets 3-2 on that day.  With the Maroons winning one game today, they pick up their 21st win of the season, the program's best win total since 2010, winning 21 in that year as well.
 
Against Virginia Wesleyan, Kylah Blackmore led the Maroons in kills with 14, followed by Brooke Bostwick with nine.  Jessica Block dished out a team-high 22 assists, while Alexandra Martin finished with 16 assists to her credit.  Roanoke had three players in double-digits with digs, led by Ryan Hedgepeth with 35.  Macey Tyree was able to tally 20 digs, while Martin finished with 11.  Sarah Long and Logan Graves led the team in block assists, tallying five apiece.
 
In the second match of the day, Kylah Blackmore again topped the squad in kills, this time with 22 to her name.  Brooke Bostwick finished with 13 kills in the second match.  Jessica Block put together 41 assists in the match, while Alexandra Martin tallied 21.  Ryan Hedgepeth led the Maroons in digs with 29.  Olivia Earls (18), Macey Tyree (15) and Kylah Blackmore (11) all had double digit digs as well.  Sarah Long and Logan Graves copied their first match performance by tallying five block assists each.  Earls also led the team in service aces with three.
 
The Maroons return to action on Wednesday, November 5th as they travel to Lynchburg to face the Hornets in the ODAC Tournament Quarterfinals.  The match has yet to have a scheduled start time.
