Roanoke Volleyball Sweeps Mary Baldwin on Thursday Night

The Lead: The Roanoke College Volleyball team notched a 3-0 sweep of non-conference foe Mary Baldwin on the road Thursday evening.

How it Happened:

  • Alex Wolfe and Kylah Blackmore each had 11 kills in the win to lead the Maroons. Shelby Frost had five kills, while Kelsey Goodman and Sydney Daniel each had four. Jessica Block and Christen Zammit had 18 and 12 assists, respectively for RC.
  • Blackmore had 18 digs to go along with her 11 kills, Ryan Hedgepeth had 18 digs and Zammit had 11 stops for the Maroons.
  • Mary Baldwin hit .000 in game one which RC was down 9-7 before a 7-1 run, taking a 14-10 lead on a Goodman kill.  Mary Baldwin cut it to 14-13 before a Daniel kill sparked an 11-5 RC run to end the game.
  • With RC up 20-18 in game two, a pair of Blackmore kills and serving error gave RC a 23-18 advantage. With the score 23-20, Grace Parrish and Goodman recorded kills to end the game and give RC a commanding 2-0  lead.
  • Mary Baldwin led 21-20 in game three before Blackmore tied the game at 21-21. A Zammit ace then gave RC the lead for good at 22-21. Mary Baldwin cut it to 23-22 but a serving error and a Goodman kill sealed the match.
