Block Leads RC Past Regionally Ranked Averett on Senior Day

The Lead: Jessica Block led RC to a 3-0 sweep of Averett who entered the match ranked No. 7 in the latest NCAA South Regional rankings.  


How it Happened:

  • Senior Jessica Block led RC with 36 assists and 16 digs. Block, who was honored prior to the match became just the third player in program history to surpass 2,000 assists in a career. She now has 2,029 for her career which is third most in RC history.
  • Defensively Ryan Hedgepeth recorded 13 digs, while Kylah Blackmore had 11 digs go along with nine kills. Christen Zammit also chipped in with seven digs.
  • Sydney Daniel led Roanoke with 10 kills followed by Blackmore with nine. Alex Wolfe had eight kills, while Logan Graves had seven.
  • With the score 19-16 Maroons in game one, RC scored four straight points, taking a 23-16 lead on a Blackmore kill.
  • The Maroons led 18-15 in the second game before widening its lead to 20-15 on back-to-back kills by Blackmore. Averett cut it to 24-23 but a Graves' kills gave RC the win.
  • Roanoke jumped out to a 14-6 lead in game three following a Wolfe kill that sparked what would prove to be a 10-3 run that was capped by a Blackmore kill that made it 23-9.
  • The Maroons hit .245 as a team with four blocks, holding the Cougars to a .060 team hitting percentage.
