Another Comeback Win For Roanoke

The Lead: Roanoke was on the road for the second time in as many days as they rallied from an 0-2 hole against Randolph last night for the 3-2 win. Friday would see Roanoke travel to Randolph-Macon for a match with the Yellow Jackets. Like yesterday, the Maroons would find themselves down, 2-1, but a 26-24 fourth set win would force a decisive, fifth set. With the set tied at 10-10, four consecutive Maroon points would propel Roanoke to a 15-12 win to take the match.  

How it Happened:

First Set:

  • The Yellow Jackets would was a .346 hitting percentage, 11 kills with just two errors, to pull away for a 1-0 lead with a 25-16 victory in the opening set.

Second Set:

  • The second set would see 11 ties and four lead changes.
  • With the score tied 22, the Yellow Jackets scored two points to put the Maroons on the brink of an 0-2 start.
  • However, a kill by Linsey Bailey and attack error on RMC would tie it once again at 24-24. Bailey then recorded back-to-back kills, as the Maroons would score four straight to take the second set and tie the match at 1-1.

Third Set:

  • Roanoke took a one-point lead at 11-10, but Randolph-Macon scored five unanswered to start to pull away, 15-11.
  • The Yellow Jacket lead would grow to six as the home team took the third frame and a 2-1 lead.

Fourth Set:

  • With all the momentum, Macon raced out to a 4-1 edge to start the fourth set.
  • A pair of Bailey kills and a service ace by Logan Pasley would allow Roanoke to get back in the set.
  • Down 24-23, Olivia Newman put away an attack to tie the score. Angel Ross gave Roanoke the lead and an error by the Randolph-Macon would see the match go to a fifth and decisive set.

Fifth Set:

  • The finale would be tied at 10-10.
  • Ryanna Clark registered the kill to give RC the advantage and Bailey would win three straight points to put Roanoke on the brink of the comeback win.
  • Randolph-Macon would score back-to-back points, forcing a Roanoke timeout. Out of the stoppage, Parker Moody recorded her ninth kill of the match as the Maroons would post their second consecutive five set, come from behind, ODAC win.

Highlights:

  • Bailey led with 25 kills, while Clark added 12 and Ross 10.
  • Pasley served up five of RC's seven aces.
  • Newman had 39 assists to go with her six kills. Bailey had 18 digs and Clark assisted on three blocks.
