The Lead: In their final home match of the season, the Roanoke volleyball team played host to Shenandoah in an Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) match on Saturday afternoon. The Maroons took each of the first two sets and led late in the third. A Hornet rally extended the match into a fourth set. Trailing by one late in the set, a 5-0 run by RC allowed the Maroons to seize control and take the match, 3-1, over Shenandoah.
Highlights:
- A 4-0 Hornet run allowed the visitors to take the lead. Kills by Linsey Bailey and Angel Ross got Roanoke started on a run that would end with kills by Ryanna Clark and Peyton Kirchner as RC finally pulled ahead 14-13. The Maroons closed the set by taking 11 of the final 16 points for a 1-0 advantage.
- Roanoke led early and built their lead to as many as seven before closing out the Hornets, 25-18.
- The Maroons were poised to close out the match with a sweep as they held a 27-26 lead. However, Shenandoah closed the set with three consecutive points to stay alive, 29-27.
- RC trailed 17-18 before a Clark kill followed by a pair of winning attacks by Bailey allowed Roanoke to get back to the front. Bailey wrapped up the ODAC win with back-to-back kills to close the match.
- Bailey finished with 19 kills while Clark added 16 and Rylee Mayer finished with nine. Olivia Newman handed out 28 assists with Kylee Draper helping on 19 points. Kennedy Clemmer recorded a match-high 30 digs and at the net, Kirchner and Mayer combined for six of the Maroon's eight blocks.
