The Basics:
Score: Roanoke 3, Piedmont 2 (25-21, 25-23, 15-25, 26-28, 17-15)
Records: Maroons 1-2, Lions 0-4
Location: Danville, Va.
The Lead: After being down two sets to none, Piedmont won the next two to even up the match with the Roanoke College women's volleyball team to force a deciding set. The two teams went back and forth before the Lions took a 14-10 lead. The Maroons scored five straight and then won the final two points to claim their first win of the season.
Highlights:
- The Maroons won the first two sets 25-21 and 25-23. RC had 13 kills in the first set and 16 kills in the second.
- In the fifth set, RC kept the score within two points of the Lions throughout before, with a 12-10 lead, PC scored two points to have four match points. The Maroons scored five-straight points with two kills and three Lion attack errors.
- After PC tied the score at 15-all, RC used kills by Peyton Kirchner and Georgie Ritter to take the deciding set 17-15, and the match 3-2
- Kirchner had a match-high 20 kills while Rylee Mayer had 15 and Ryanna Clark finished with 13 kills.
- Kylee Draper had 50 assists in the match, seven more than the Lions had combined.

Records: Maroons 1-3, Avenging Angels 3-1

The Lead: RC dropped their final match of the 2022 Cougar Classic 3-1 to Meredith to earn a split on the day.
Highlights:
- The Maroons rebounded after dropping the first set to even the match up with a 25-21 win in set two.
- The Avenging Angels went on to win sets three and four to take the match three sets to one.
- Mayer finished with a team-high 12 kills to lead the Maroons. She currently has 55 kills on the season with 3.24 per set.
- Kylee Draper finished with 35 assists for the team high. She currently has 158 on the season with 9.29 per set, ranking second in the ODAC. As a team, the Maroons lead the conference in assists with 188 total, four better than Virginia Wesleyan's 184
Up Next: The Maroons will return home next weekend and host the 2022 Maroons Classic. There are nine matches on Friday, September 9 and nine on Saturday, Sept. 10. RC starts off the event with match against Salem on Friday. First serve is scheduled for 6 p.m.
