HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Jumping out to a 5-1 lead, Roanoke capitalized on mid and late set runs to take set two 25-19.
  • The Quakers took their own 5-1 lead in the early part of the third set. However, the Maroons went on a 14-4 run to take a commanding 15-9 lead. Never looking back in the set, Roanoke continued to pull away and took a 2-1 match lead with a 25-21 set three win.
  • Guilford used 14 kills in the fourth set to pull the match even and force a deciding fifth set.
  • The Maroons scored the first point of the final set and never looked back as they never trailed and forced a Quaker time-out, leading 7-2. Both teams went back and forth, each scoring eight of the final 16 points, but with Roanoke already leading, the Maroons picked up their first ODAC win of the season 3-2 over Guilford.
